We are back with our Influenc-HER Profile Series, today we are highlighting Keisha Reynolds, this extraordinary woman wears many hats and today she introduces us to her world.
What is your name and what do you do?
My name is Keisha Reynolds and I am the CEO of K&R Communications, Co-organizer of EmpoweringHer Brunch, and the Author of SundayswithKeisha, a motivational blog for Black Millennials. I also serve on the core team for the Innovation and Technology Ministry at Second Calvary Baptist Church and I’m the past chairwoman of the Mwanamugimu Essay Contest for the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Are there any childhood experiences that led you to where you are today?
Absolutely. I believe that my mother had a lot to do with it. She encouraged me to write and speak publicly. She placed me in college level courses while I was still in middle and high school during the summer. She gave me every journal, note book, pen, pencil that I needed to be successful, not only that, she challenged me to think critically and didn’t fault me for voicing my opinion. All of those things we’re the footprint to becoming a public relations specialist.
Where did your passion come from?
My passion and motivation is something I seek daily. It comes from those I’m surrounded by, things I see or read, but must importantly my passion comes from within. I push myself to be the very best that I can be in all that I do knowing that my works and effort will eventually make way for the next generation of my family to live comfortably.
Tell us about K & R Communications?
K&R Communications is a digital public relations firm focused on growing small businesses in the digital realm. We specialize in web design, social media marketing and management, graphic design, photography, company blogging and more. We are a team of people who are passionate about helping small business owners succeed in their efforts to grow or sustain within their particular market.
What are some of your favorite topics to blog about?
I’m the author of SundaysWithKeisha.com, which is a motivational blog for Black millennials. I started my blog to encourage our generation to believe in the beauty of their dreams and how to trust the journey that is set forth for their lives. It’s important to understand that life is a journey not a destination, and the steps you take today (no matter how hard or how many sleepless nights) it will all pay off in the end if you stay the course. Winners never give up.
Who do you look to for inspiration?
What tangible piece of advice would you give young girls who want to be where you are?
Fight for your dreams! Believe in yourself. Trust yourself. Always seek opportunities to grow. Always build your network. Read, read, and read. And most importantly, seek mentorship from those who are within the industry you want to be in.
What do you love most about being a woman?
Everything. We’re dope! Not only can we birth life, we bring life to everything that we are a part of…we’re passionate, kind, assertive and well-defined.
What is the key to finding balance in your personal and professional life?
This is a tough one. It’s so important to have balance but as an entrepreneur constantly molding your business finding that time is tough. However, you have to carve out time for self because it brings clarity, energy and creativity so that you can continue to be successful. (As I type this, I’m actually on a plane heading to my vacation destination for a week).
What is the gift and curse of being a millennial?
Ha! There is a proverb that says “do not let people think less of you because you are young.” With that being said, people will try to question you as if you have not study the craft, tested your theory and found success because you are young and they’ve (the older generations of the working class) have “been doing this for a long time or before you were born.” But there is a place for everyone and if you provide a good product or service the people/clients WILL come – trust me! The great thing about being a millennial is that we see the world differently and have different experiences. We are fearless. We believe we can accomplish anything, and if you have that mindset you will find success.
What is one thing many people do not know about you?
I can sing.
Our fun question: If you could be any animal what would it be and why?
I would be a bird..not sure which type of bird but a powerful bird. I find the sky to be fascinating. It’s endless. Imagine the places you could go and the people you could see if you were a bird. The sky is literally the limit.
What does the future hold for you?
Greater success. Greater opportunities. One thing I’d like to do in the near future is write a book.
