What is your name and what do you do?

I go by Jomanda / Froxstarr. I’m a visual artist,  DJ, and lightworker here to save the planet!

Are there any childhood experiences that led you to where you are today?

My entire life has led me here, I believe everything happens for a reason. I moved a lot growing up and was super shy and timid but I feel every encounter and experience has given me the strength to fully believe in myself and chase my dreams.

How did you get started in your current field today? And where did that passion come from?

I got started Dj-ing in 13′ when my bf at the time taught me how to use the equipment. It was exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time but I was eager to learn because I feel like I’ve always done it in my head as a kid. From mixing and blending songs together and knowing the words to every hip-hop or reggae song that came up next. My entire family is music enthusiasts, come from a beautiful little island called Trinidad & Tobago so it’s in my blood.

Who do you look at as inspiration to keep going?

I pull inspiration from several different directions, my peers, artists, my family, nature. Theres something different you can learn from everyone and their creations, whatever it may be and however it was made.

What makes you stand apart from everyone else in your field?

I think what makes me stand out is my high level of energy and the way I dip and dabble in different genres, but most importantly staying true to myself. I smile excessively, laugh when I mess up, jump off the stage and start dancing when I play my favorite song, I’m really just a bundle of joy when I’m in my zone.

What tangible piece of advice would you give young girls who want to be where you are?

Stay true to you and follow your intuition! Take advice from others with a grain of pink Himalayan salt. You know what excites you the most and you know your strengths in serving up love for the world.

What do you love most about being a woman?

I love being emotional. That sounds like a femme weakness but being empathetic is truly a gift and also being able to carry life! I think that’s truly the most amazing part.

What is your most memorable moment as a DJ?

My most memorable moment was when I Dj’d a Fantastic Planet event, Halloween 15′ w/ Va$htie + many others. I’ve always looked up to her in particular so it was almost like a dream. My set was actually pretty tight too lol.

What is your least memorable moment as DJ?

My least memorable moment was a night Future came to town and I had noooo idea. My event literally had about 10 people so we ended up closing early haha. But I still had a good time.

Are there any struggles being a woman in your field?

Being a woman in this field it’s easy to get taken advantage of, but as long as you know who you are and your worth it’s easier to speak up for yourself because you are the best representative of your brand.

What is one thing many people do not know about you?

Many people don’t know that I have a very deep, analytical, + philosophical side of me that’s bloomed over time. I’ll eventually incorporate them into my paintings once I put everything together. But I really want to write a book one day, so far I’ve started a quote book or journal you can say.

Our fun question: If you could be any animal what would it be and why?

If I can be any animal I’d say an owl. That’s my spirit animal. Very observant, nocturnal, sooooaring throughout the midnight sky.
